NAME: John Maddox
AGE: 33
BIRTHDAY: August 22nd
HEIGHT: 6'2"
EYES: Blue
HAIR: Black
MARITAL STATUS: Single
TITLE: N/A
CLASS: High-end middle class (Havelock Mills owner).
FAMILY: Father- Owen Maddox [deceased]; Mother- Jean Maddox [deceased]; Younger Brother- Mr. Nicodemus Maddox ; Younger Sister- Isabel Maddox
PERSONALITY: John has a resolute, inflexible personality, although he can show warmth and kindness to some people (mainly his siblings). He believes in hard work and doing your best despite your circumstances or situation. He's fairly set in his ways, and it takes a lot to change his mind on something, though he will listen to debate if he finds it interesting or worthy enough.
FASHION: Usually dark, simple clothes. He's often found at the mill so he does not spend too much attention upon his attire, so long as he's presentable.
BACKGROUND:
- John is the eldest son and first child of Owen and Jean Maddox, older brother to Nic and Izzy. The Maddoxes were always a middle class family; his father inherited Havelock Mills from his grandfather, and John would inherit it when he was 19 years old. Owen committed suicide following some foolish financial gambles, leaving John to take up responsibility for his family. Jean would pass away only a few years later, and the siblings only had each other left. This has caused John to become fiercely protective of his brother and sister.
- While he and Isabel work at the mill, Nicodemus found his calling within the church. John often teases his brother for his choice (having become bitter towards any higher power after their father's death), but in truth, he's proud of him for not trapping himself in the family business and exploring what makes him happy.
- The work environment at the mill has become harsh as of late. A few people have begun to suffer from byssinosis, which is caused by exposure to the cotton fibers in mills. John is striving to have a ventilation system installed but it is costly. He fears the workers will begin to leave or go on strike if he is unable to resolve this soon.
- John isn't necessarily opposed to marriage, but he focuses all of his energy on the mill and keeping it running. It's his family's livelihood, thus it's the most important thing. Besides, most women find him unapproachable, cold, and broody, and he hasn't bothered to try and change their minds.
