PERSONALITY: Tom is quick-witted, cynical, but can also be passionate with subjects that interest him. Although he doesn't often believe so, he's fairly intelligent, but prefers fun to the more practical uses of his mind. There are times he can be self-centered and lack decorum, but he does, in fact, have the capacity for great emotion when his defenses are down.
FASHION: Clean, practical, but nice clothes of his station. God forbid he look like a country boy in front of his grandmother, a duchess.
BACKGROUND:
- James Cartwright was the only son of @theadora, and disappointingly married a woman far under his station because he loved her, refusing to marry for financial stability. Thomas was the first of James and Anne's children, and they had a few more after him.
- Living in the country, it was difficult to make ends meet, and James still refused to go back to London. In his eyes, his mother had disowned him and was never going to give her the satisfaction of begging her for help.
- When Thomas was about ten years old, James passed away...leaving his family with no financial support and Theadora without an heir. The Duchess reached out to Anne and requested (or more like "politely demanded") that Thomas- her eldest grandson- live with her, where he could be brought up properly, groomed, and potentially become heir to Edinburgh. Without little choice, Tom moved to London where his family would receive a small monthly stipend to live on. As he grew older, he would send whatever extra that he was able.
- In truth, Tom began to prefer the city life and almost forgot what things had been like back in the country, although he never forgot his mother and siblings. Sometimes, he wished they could come live in London.
- Is studying law at Lincoln's Inn, London. He does not enjoy it, but doesn't know what else to do with his life that will please his grandmother.
- He enjoys literature, boxing, and gambling. Because of being away from his childhood home for so long, he doesn't have much of an appreciation for nature anymore. He prefers the pleasures of metropolitan amusements and the company of the wealthy, something that he tends to make quite clear on many occasions.
- Tom does his best to avoid any potentional marriage agreements. Because his family struggled just to live since his parents married for love, he isn't one to believe in true romance, nor is he ready to be tied down and forced to deal with a single, boring woman for the rest of his life just yet.
