The social season was in full swing, but especially at the Atwood townhome. With two daughters already married off, and two to go, Benedict Atwood was sure to be eager to get both Elise and Amelie to the finish line, hopefully, this social season. Having been the first to wed, and during her first social season at that, the oldest Atwood sister didn't need to feel such pressures anymore unlike her sisters.
No, Lynn's pressure was something of an entirely different sort. Her husband and practically upped and vanished with just leaving a measly note that he would try to fix things and would be back. Nearly two years later and with a new child added to the family, Reginald Cheshire was still nowhere to be found. His gambling debts, however? Those were still around, and his wife was forced to pay for them. Randal Smith had become quite the acquaintance of hers, and like the lioness she was, she was doing everything in her power to keep her cubs safe and away from the viper.
Of course, she cursed her husbands name over her morning tea. It'd become quite the ritual for her. After Reginald's disappearance and the rumors that had started up about it, Lynn found herself leaning on her family once more. Especially when she found she was pregnant with baby number four that wasn't Reginald's. Lynn had finally "graced" Reginald with a boy after his disappearance, and to society, it was a crying shame he couldn't see the son he'd desperately wanted. At her mother's insistence, she'd relented and joined the family in London this year, rather than staying in the countryside like she so wanted to at the Cheshire estate. Still, she supposed she could show society that Lynn was in fact, still alive. The rumors surrounding her husband's disappearance weren't going to make her a coward. That, she most certainly was not.
"Wait for me! Wait for me! I gots wittol legs!" Lynn's youngest daughter called after her older sisters as they raced down the hallway to the room that had been designated the "ball prepping" room. A smile was on her face as she watched her three oldest children. Clearly excited about what was going on, but not fully understanding it. They just knew their aunties, and mummy were going to a big party and they had to stay home. Sophia was taking it the hardest out of them all, even though she didn't voice it.
And the youngest? Well the young Lord that had saved his sisters futures was sucking on his thumb, as happy as any one and a half year old could be as he yanked on a loose strand of his mothers hair. "Ouch!" She hissed, glaring playfully at the baby. "You my young Sir, need to work on your manners." She lightly scolded. He merely grinned a toothy grin at her, his brown eyes alighted in delight. She couldn’t figure out if it was from the fact he caught his mothers attention, or if it was mischief. Either way, the look reminded Lynn of Benjamin’s real father.
“Momma! Momma, Loooooooook, they’re so pretty!!!!” Georgiana’s high pitched squeal of delight filled the air, loud enough Lynn was sure the servants in the kitchen heard her. The three girls came charging out of the room towards her. “My goodness you three are excited. What’s happened to my girls, and have you been possessed by imps?” Lynn asked, an amused smile crossing her face. “Nooooo,” Franny giggled. “Momma, you gots to see the the dresses! They’re so Pretty!” Georgiana held her arms out at her side, her blue eyes going wide in clear amazement. “Are they now?” Lynn laughed and reached down to tuck a strand of her brown hair behind her ear, but it was in vain as she nodded her head frantically.
The small group of girls soon spotted someone coming up behind Lynn, and their gasp of excitements filled the air again. “AUNTIE ELISE YOU GOTTA SEE THEEEM!” Georgiana shrieked, rushing forward to their aunt. Lynn could only laugh as she looked behind her, seeing the eight year old fling her arms around Elise’s waist and look up at her. “Georgie darling, You’re going to be the death of your Grandpapa, and Grandmama’s nerves screaming like that. Tone it down just a smidge dearest.” Lynn requested. She actually rather liked the sound of her excited children, and were they at their own home in the countryside, Lynn might have joined in with her little chaotic brood. But given the strictness of her parents and the fact they were visiting, Lynn tried to be considerate.

Like most girls, she should be excited for the social season, but Elise was uncharacteristically quiet. Not that she was ever overly talkative, but she didn't seem to be herself today, and the last thing she wanted to do was put on a gown and converse with strangers. Especially behind a mask. Wasn't the point of attending such events to find a husband? How was she to do that while covering her face?
At least it would hide how unenthused she felt?
She would try, of course. The jury was still out on how she felt about marriage- it was just another "thing" she had to deal with in this stage of life, and a part of her wished she could get a little more excited about the prospect. She loved her nieces and nephews, felt that her older sisters had good lives now that they were married...but was that for her? The question was nagging, thus irritating.
Although the girls were squealing and yelling in delight, Elise barely registered it. She seemed to be in a daze as she walked routinely down the halls of the manor towards the prep room, only to find small arms wrapping around her waist all of a sudden. She snapped out of it, gasping and pretending to almost fall over as Georgiana crashed into her. She was laughing, bending a little so that she could embrace the girl before shuffling forward; holding her close and forcing her to have to walk backwards into the room. "See what?" she asked in amusement, her mood suddenly shifting as easily as that.
